Scott Jeffrey
Tasting Room Associate
If you’ve visited our tasting room at any point in the last year, chances are you’ve met our associate Scott. Growing up in Massachusetts, Scott met his wife Cynthia at night school when he offered her a ride home after class – they’ve been together ever since. Two boys later, and with a successful career in tech, Scott found his way to Oregon via Intel. He can still feel the draw from New England, but his roots are firmly planted here.
How did you originally get interested in wine?
My introduction to fine wine started when I had my first ‘real’ job back when the drinking age was 18. I made a pact with myself to buy a bottle with every paycheck. When my co-workers went to the bank to cash their paychecks, I went to the wine store. I didn’t end up buying wine every week, but it was a start.
You just celebrated your 1-year anniversary at Chehalem. What’s your favorite part, and why?
- The team at Chehalem is a privilege and a joy to work alongside. The chemistry and camaraderie among the staff is infectious.
- And, the pinot!
What is your favorite Chehalem wine?
What is my favorite child? Well, STATEMENT is positively sublime. It hits all the notes you want a pinot to hit. I will always defer to the Reserve pinot, though. It’s like a true and trustworthy friend.
What is your top 10 playlist for the Tasting Room?
My musical taste is all over the place, depending on the mood. I can toss out a few (Tasting Room appropriate) pieces…
- Let’s Get Lost – Chet Baker
- This Must Be The Place – Talking Heads
- The Flying Squirrel – Pink Martini
- My Funny Valentine – Chet Baker
- La Wally – Catalani
- I’ve Got You Under My Skin – Storm Large
Boy, this is hard…
- 25 or 6 to 4 – Chicago (I dunno… lots of early Chicago stuff)
- Let’s fill it out with Chet Baker
What is something people are surprised to learn about you?
I do a lot of carving. I started out carving a lot of Santa’s and have since carved in nearly every discipline. I’ve been represented by galleries in Portland and Seattle, with pieces displayed all over, including the residence of the Vice President (not the current one). I’ve taken classes from some renowned instructors, and I’ve done some teaching myself. I’ve even done a bit of stone carving. If it stands still long enough, I’ll try carving it.
My carving passion lies in the Pacific Northwest native style. I’ve done several masks, panels, and bowls, and studied the art and culture of First Nations people extensively.
